Over the life of your AC, you’ll likely run into the occasional issue. You need to know how to troubleshoot these issues and when to contact the pros at Airco Service Inc. for help. Here are the top 10 most common problems.
1. Filter
If the air quality is not what it usually is, or if the temperature isn’t reaching the desired coolness temperature, you may just need to replace the filter. You should change the filter of your air conditioner once every two to three months.
2. Drainage Problems
The drain line runs into similar issues as the filter and may become clogged with debris over time. Clean out the drainage line if you’re experiencing a leak.
3. Leaking Refrigerant
If you’ve noticed a refrigerant leak from your AC unit you will not reach the desired temperature. This issue is one you need to handle, otherwise you’ll continue leaking refrigerant. The longer you sit on the problem the bigger the issue will likely become.
4. Breaking Fuses
Fuses will blow to protect your air conditioner’s compressor and motor. You’ll want to bring in a professional to inspect the unit to see what is causing the increase in electrical flow.
5. Thermostat
Often times the most common problem with your air conditioner is the thermostat’s battery going bad. Change out the battery and power the thermostat back on.
6. Worn out Contactor
There are a number of contractors within your AC. All of the essential internal elements, including the blow motor and compressor, have contractors. These contractors support the electrical connection. If the motors in your AC are not turning on it may because a contractor needs replacement.
7. Evaporator Coil Issues
This part of the AC absorbs heat, pulling it out of the air. The air travel through air ducts in the house. If you can’t keep a cold temperature the problem is likely with the evaporator coils.
8. Compressor Problems
Is the AC running but cold air isn’t pumping out? It is likely a problem with the compressor, as this pushes the refrigerant through your home.
9. Problems With Condenser Coils
Condenser coils found on the exterior of the unit are often dirty. Clean this area off in the spring with a hose to clear away debris. This should restore function to the air conditioner.
10. Capacitor Issues
If you have capacitor issues the motor powering the compressor won’t work. You may need to have the capacitors replaced when this happens.
