Ways to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

Airco Service | Energy Efficient Home

The more energy efficient your home is the more money you keep tucked away in the bank! This is money you can use towards the next family vacation, paying down student loans, or just for a rainy day. There are all sorts of different ways to improve the energy efficiency of your home and while you can invest in brand new, green appliances, there are less expensive options to consider. At Airco Service we want to help educate you on the best money saving opportunities for how to make your home energy efficient without spending a loan of money to begin with.

Windows and Doors

The windows in your home are likely the least energy efficient area of the building. Heat is easily lost through the glass; not to mention it is extremely thin when compared to the building material of the house. Now, you can always invest in energy efficient windows which utilize two or three layers of glass. This, of course, is costly; although it does increase property value. Instead, look to replace cracked weather stripping and use caulk to fill in cracks. During the winter months you should also consider applying a weather-proofing plastic sealer. This acts like a second plate of glass and helps reduce energy loss.

HVAC System

Your AC and furnace are two of the largest energy consuming appliances in the home; so, making slight improvements go a long way. First: have your HVAC system inspected. Correcting slight issues and cleaning out vents plays a big role in dropping energy costs. From there, consider installing a smart thermostat. These devices not only allow you to program temperature changes for heating and cooling your home, but smart thermostats learn and adapt to when people are home. This can greatly increase your energy savings throughout the course of the year.

Home Upgrades

New “Energy Star” appliances cut down on energy consumption. If you can not afford these kinds of upgrades, consider a smart surge protector. This device allows you to control what devices use power thereby cutting energy costs.

By following through with these different methods of how to make your home energy efficient you will instantly see your monthly energy bills begin to drop. If you are interested in improving the energy efficiency of your home’s HVAC system, make sure to give Airco Service a call and set up a cleaning or HVAC maintenance today.
