How to Properly Take Care of Your HVAC in the Summer

HVAC maintenance

Taking care of your HVAC system during summer prolongs the life of your AC and helps you save money on energy bills throughout the year as well. In order to best provide HVAC maintenance, there are a number of different steps you need to take. You can perform many of these steps on your own, but you may also need to turn to the professionals at Airco Service Inc. for added assistance.

Change Air Filters

Your air filters need to be changed every two to three months to allow for proper air flow and to improve the air quality in your house. If you smoke or have pets, it’s important to swap out the air filters every two months. By doing this, you’ll prevent the HVAC system from running harder than it should. If anyone in the house suffers from allergies, it’s a good idea to invest in HEPA air filters.

Annual Inspection

It’s a good idea to bring in a professional service provider to inspect the HVAC system. Do this prior to the middle of the summer, which is when the HVAC provider is busiest. It’s also when you’ll be more likely to run into major problems with your AC. When you have it inspected, you’ll have potential problems identified ahead of time, so you can have them repaired and corrected before more extensive problems develop.

Air Duct Cleanings

Now is a good time to have the air ducts in your HVAC cleaned. By clearing out the dirt and debris collecting in the air ducts, you’ll improve the air quality in the house while allowing the AC to run easier. Additionally, make sure to have the vents cleaned. This includes the air intake duct. Make sure this is not blocked off by furniture since it can cause flow problems, which will affect how your entire HVAC system works. It may also cause it to collect unwanted dirt and debris.

From changing your air filters to having the system cleaned and inspected, proper HVAC maintenance helps extend the life of your AC system while reducing energy consumption throughout the course of the year. If you’re in need of HVAC maintenance or have further questions as to what you need to do to best take care of your HVAC, feel free to give the team at Airco Service Inc. a call today.
