How to Know If You Need to Repair or Replace Your Hot Water Heater

replace Water Heater

A hot water tank is one of the most important appliances in your home, especially during winter. There is, arguably, nothing worse than having to deal with a failing heater when you need it the most. To help avoid last minute rage, clicks, and tears, here is a list of ways to know if your heater is faulty and whether you need to have it repaired or replaced.

Varying Water Temperatures

If the water temperature is constantly fluctuating between hot, cold or warm within a short period, this might be an indication that the heating element is faulty or simply burning out. The element can be replaced, or you can have the unit replaced entirely.

Hot water tank leaks

If you see drops of water around your tank or even a full-blown pour, then you need to call a plumber to diagnose and fix the problem. You should be get this done promptly lest the leakage causes water and mold damage.

Rumbling Sounds

If you can hear strong, rumbling and cracking sounds coming from the tank when you turn on the heater, it might be a sign of sediment accumulation in the tank. This residue increases the chances of more malfunctions arising in the tank especially if the issue is not sorted with urgency.

Metallic taste or smell

This is a clear indication that your tank has become rusty. Rust is ultimately dissolved in the water, which explains the metallic tastes and odor. Such corrosion can be fatal especially if you are using the water for drinking. Once this happens, immediately contact a professional to replace the heater.

When the heater is too old

The majority of manufacturers’ advise that hot water tanks should be used for a maximum period of about 10 to 15 years, after which the heater should be replaced. Factors that can make the tanks last longer include monthly checkups and using your heater less.

Sometimes, your heater might become outdated, but the replacement cost could be too high for you. Don’t worry, Airco is your ideal solution; you can easily get your heater examined and subsequently receive a review of all the possible options to find one that will fit your budget, and serve your home or business longer.

Have you experienced any of the mentioned hot water tank issues? Contact Airco Services and let the professionals advise you on the best way forward.
