Troubleshooting Tips When Your Heating Doesn’t Work in OKC

Heating Problems | Airco

When you run into heater problems, it can be hard for someone without specialized experience to figure out what’s going on. These issues can sometimes be severe, potentially dangerous issues that require an expert’s attention. However, from time to time you may run into a minor inconvenience that you can correct on your own. At Airco Service, we have many years of experience providing the heating services Oklahoma City residents need, and we know how to tell major problems from minor ones.  Here are some ways to troubleshoot issues you can handle on your own.

Temperature Control Problems

Sometimes your heating system will struggle to warm your space as much as you’d like it to, or will make that space uncomfortably warm when you haven’t turned up the heat. First, check the thermostat to make sure it is on and functioning properly, and consider changing the batteries If this doesn’t fix the problem, try replacing your air filter.

Furnace Not Staying On

If your furnace isn’t staying on, the first thing to do is check your pilot light. If it’s off, carefully follow the instructions for relighting it (they should be printed on the outside of the furnace). If this doesn’t work or you continually have to relight the pilot light, the filament may be worn out, or you may have more substantial problems with the furnace. In this case, you should consult a technician.

Furnace Suddenly Shuts Off

If your heating system suddenly cuts out on you, check the circuit breaker in the house. It is possible you just tripped the circuit or, if you’re running on an older system, you blew a fuse. If either issue is present, resetting the circuit breaker should return things to normal.

Furnace Cycles Between On and Off

If your furnace is constantly switching on and off, the culprit may be poor airflow. This is usually due to a clogged air filter, since this makes it hard for the furnace to regulate itself properly. Try changing the filter and replacing the thermostat batteries, then run the heating system for a while to make sure that you’ve solved the problem.

If these tips don’t work or your problem isn’t covered here, consider calling in the professionals. No matter the problem or the kind of heating system you use, contact the Airco Service team for the best heating services Oklahoma City has to offer!
